Ventekonto

You can assign a Danish bank account as your NemKonto in two ways:

• Contact your financial institution and ask them to assign one of your accounts as your NemKonto. Most Danish financial institutions can assign one of your accounts as your NemKonto.
• Log in to NemKonto’s self-service with your MitID and assign one of your existing accounts (eg. your regular bank account) as your NemKonto.

Be aware that a physical activation letter will be sent to your registered address, if you assign a NemKonto via the self-service.

You can also assign a foreign account as your NemKonto.

You can assign a NemKonto in a foreign financial institution in two ways:

1. With your MitID
2. Without a MitID

With your MitID

The easiest way to assign a NemKonto in a foreign financial institution is via the NemKonto self-service, where you log in with your MitID.

When you have logged in, you go to the page “Foreign NemKonto” and fill out the relevant fields.

Without MitID

If you do not have a MitID and you want to assign a NemKonto in a foreign financial institution, you need to send the following documentation to the Agency for Digital Government, and they will help you assign a NemKonto:

1. NemKonto form for assigning a NemKonto in a foreign financial institution with your signature and validated by the signatures of a notary, a lawyer or two witnesses – you can find the form here (pdf).
2. A copy of valid ID.

When the Agency for Digital Government has approved your documentation, an activation letter will be sent to your registered address.

You can also receive your payment without assigning a NemKonto.

However, we recommend that you assign a NemKonto, if it is possible. When you have a NemKonto, all payments from Danish public authorities – as well as any money you may have on the ventekonto – will automatically be transferred to your account. This is the fastest way to receive payments from Danish public authorities.

If you want your money to be paid out to an account that is not registered as your NemKonto, you should be aware that you will need to go through this process again, if you receive any payments in the future from Danish public authorities.

You should also be aware that the processing time for payments without a NemKonto is longer than for automatic payments to a NemKonto.

If you wish to receive your payment in an account without a NemKonto, you have the following options:

With your MitID or eID

You can choose, where you want to receive the transfer by filling out a digital form. You can log in either via your MitID or eID – depending on what you have access to.

MitID:

If you have a MitID, you can use the digital form at this link.

eID:

eID is a digital identification, which allows foreign citizens to use your national electronic ID and thereby safely validate your identity. If you have eID, you can use the digital form at this link.

Without MitID or eID

If you do not have a MitID or eID and want to receive a transfer from the ventekonto to one of your accounts, you can send the following documentation to the Agency for Digital Government, and they will help you with your transfer:

1. The form for manual payments for persons with your signature and the signatures of a notary, a lawyer or two witnesses – you can find the form here (pdf).
2. A copy of valid ID.

Ventekonto is an account that is currently controlled by the Agency for Digital Government. When a public authority transfers money to a person that does not have a NemKonto at the time of the payment, the money is transferred to the ventekonto. The person is notified via post and urged to assign a NemKonto. As soon as a NemKonto is assigned, the money automatically gets transferred to the person’s NemKonto.

The money in the ventekonto is from the Danish Tax Agency. The Agency for Digital Government will process payments from the ventekonto as it is this agency – and not the Danish Tax Agency – that owns the account.

There have previously been payments from other organizations as well, including the Danish Defense Command, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Defense’s Internal Audit, Thisted Municipality and Gentofte Municipality. However, these organizations no longer use the ventekonto and payments from them have been returned to the relevant parties, who are responsible for the payments.

It is not possible to assign a NemKonto to an invalid CPR-number. If the money, you want transferred, has been attempted transferred to a CPR-number, which is no longer valid (eg. because you have been assigned a new CPR-number), you will need to request a manual payment.

The guide “3. payment without a NemKonto” describes how you can receive your money from the ventekonto without a NemKonto.

Since your MitID is linked to your current, valid CPR-number, you must use the “Without MitID or eID” solution and submit the physical form. Remember to provide the invalid CPR-number that the money was paid to — this is crucial for processing the case. The former CPR-number is stated in the letter, you received regarding your account balance on the ventekonto.

Please note that all future payments from public payers will likely be made to your new CPR-number, so future transfers will not go to the ventekonto. If you find that payments are still being made to your old, now invalid CPR-number, please contact the organization that you are supposed to receive the transfer from.

The Agency for Digital Government is working with the probate courts to pay out funds from the ventekonto to relevant estates for transfers made before 1 July 2025. The probate court determines whether the amount can be paid out, and the probate court will contact the estate’s designated contact person or heirs regarding the payment.

This collaboration is part of a new process designed to ensure that funds are disbursed correctly and in accordance with the inheritance law.

If the payment was meant for a deceased person for whom you are an heir or estate administrator—and the payment was either transferred to the ventekonto after 1 July 2025, or you have not been contacted by the probate court about an amount transferred before 1 July 2025 - you must submit the following documentation to the Agency for Digital Government, and they will assist you in obtaining the disbursement:

1. NemKonto form for estates with signatures from the signee as well as either a notary, lawyer or two witnesses – you can find the form here (pdf).
2. A copy of valid ID for the executor of the estate/sole heir.
3. If the estate is not in Denmark, you will need the following documentation:
   1. Official documentation from the deceased’s home country responding to the Danish probate certificate translated to either Danish or English.
4. If the estate is in Denmark, you will need the following documentation:
   1. Danish probate certificate.
5. In case of multiple heirs:
   1. Power of attorney from the heirs to the executor of the estate.
   2. The power of attorney must be signed by a notary or two witnesses.
   3. The power of attorney must contain the account information for the executor of the estate (IBAN/SWIFT).
   4. Copy of valid ID for all heirs.

You must assign a NemKonto or contact NemKonto Support within 3 years of the attempted payment. If you do not do this, the money will be used to cover any potential debt, you have to the Danish authorities. If you do not have any debt, the money will be transferred to the state in accordance with the nemkonto act.
