NemKonto for citizens

All citizens in Denmark are required to have a NemKonto. Your NemKonto is the bank account used by all public authorities when they make payments to you.

Assigning a NemKonto

An account must be assigned as NemKonto via a bank. The NemKonto can be assigned via a Danish bank or a foreign credit institution.

You will receive an activation letter

When you have assigned a NemKonto you will receive an activation letter with an activation code.

Adolescents and NemKonto

Regardless of whether you are under 18 years of age or have just turned 18, you are required to have a NemKonto if you receive payments from public authorities.

Foreign nationals and NemKonto

All foreign nationals with a Danish civil registration number (a CPR number) should have a NemKonto.

Specific account

You can choose to have certain payments, e.g. child benefits, made to an account other than your NemKonto. This is called a specific account.
